Workshop: Walking Over Bones

Field recording & sound editing by Tomáš Prištiak
4.06. - 5.06. 2022
Curated by Jelisaveta Rapaić
From the borders of alarming sonic situations, recognisable soundscape narratives and post-dystopian silence, a soundtrack without a past emerges. We have chosen a land we can no longer name, leaving us merely to become slow-moving explorers without ambition to distinguish zones by matter, relying on frequencies and the non-visible to the human eye.
In conjunction with Barbara Kapusta’s exhibition, Futures: https://kunsthallebratislava.sk/en/program/futures/, we invite you to sign up for a sound and field recording workshop by Tomáš Prištiak, curated by Jelisaveta Rapaić, which will be held on the weekend of 4. – 5. June 2022 at Kunsthalle Bratislava and other locations around the city.
This is a two-day workshop for young adults, professionals or amateurs, where they will learn how to harvest and manipulate sounds from our immediate surroundings. The participants will be provided with appropriate field recording equipment, a laptop in case they do not have their own, and will be using an open-source sound editing program named Reaper. By the end of the workshop, the participants will be leaving with their own sound piece and basic knowledge of the sound editing and field recording processes.
Tomáš Prištiak studied documentary filmmaking, eventually shifting his main focus to mediums such as music and sound in their various contexts. In his projects (Umelá chlopňa, Krosná, Tok) he deals with topics such as performative listening, the physicality of sound and body and the topic of nature and the human world. He currently runs the Weltschmerzen experimental music label, where he released his debut album Dog-Rose last year as well as almost two dozen other albums of curated local and international music over the past two years.

The number of participants is limited to a small group. If you are interested, please sign up by writing an email to jelisaveta.rapaic@kunsthallebratislava.sk expressing your interest by 2. 6. 2022. 23:59h, with the subject titled ‘’Workshop’’ after which you will receive further information.
No previous knowledge is required. The participation is free of charge. Bring your laptop or ask for one of ours!
