Housing Bees

20.3 - 31.3. 2023
Curated by: Kaez Tjoe-Fat and Sofie Gombert

Kunsthalle Bratislava invites you and your pupils to a workshop for children and youth, entitled ‘Housing Bees’. The workshop will be led by Kaez Tjoe-Fat and Sofie Gombert, two Dutch students of cultural heritage from the Reinwardt Academy in Amsterdam, current interns at Kunsthalle Bratislava. This workshop is organised in connection with the current exhibition of the Czech sculptor Anna Hulačová. Together we will shape houses for the smallest hardest workers of our planet, bees.

The solo exhibition of Anna Hulačová entitled Edible, Beautiful, Untamed is on display at Kunsthalle Bratislava, between 23.02.2023 – 10.04.2023. In her work, Anna shows us our world, which is filled with organisms and machinery from her point of view. The common rural landscape is home to edible cultivated wheat, the beautiful feral daffodil and the untamed thistle. To Anna, they symbolise various material, species, cultural, and economic interactions and overlapping interests that shape agrarian ecosystems. Plants are better gardeners than we are, she echoes Emmanuelle Coccia. These solar-powered terraforming alchemists have the capability to influence and shape their environment, creating the conditions necessary for life as we know it.

The workshop is free of charge and will be held in English. The workshop will be available for registration from 20th of March till the 31st of March. It welcomes all children from the age of 6+ in groups. There will be a maximum of 15 participants for the workshop. To register, please contact Sofie at ‘training@kunsthallebratislava.sk’ with the subject line: Housing Bees.’ Submit your registration along with names of participants, preferred date and time.
